Nope (2022)

Antlers Holst: “This dream you're chasing, where you end up at the top of the mountain, all eyes on you... it's the dream you never wake up from.”
I think that and the short-lived existence of Ryder Muybridge in the film neatly sums up the entirety of the film for me.
It’s all a spectacle.
It’s a warning of losing yourself in the distraction of rabbit holes. A warning of falling into the trap offered by many contemporary temptations.
Throughout the film, easter-eggs are thoughtfully planted. My favorites? The scene of OJ, Emerald, and Angel in the diner with a subtly distracting altercation happening outside. Antlers dying (ironically on top of a mountain chasing a dream shot) by chasing what he deems “not mortally deserving” killing himself for the infamy of a shot no one else can get. Gordy being a secondary story (and such a great scene) portraying the reality of untamable nature (and in this context, the tragedy of attempting to profit off of it). Pigs can fly: the pig that seems to somehow be on the roof of a building. AND FINALLY, one I recently discovered in a deeper dive: Jupe mentioning that Gordy’s attack was 6 minutes and 13 seconds of chaos while also introducing Jean Jacket’s visits occurring at 6:13pm. Matthew 6:13: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
So cleverly thought out and intricate for a story that combines modern day problems with an enormous “bad miracle” akin to Jaws. Amazing.
